Mental Health Awareness Month: Connecting with What Matters Most

Mental Health Awareness Month: Connecting with What Matters Most

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and this year Twinings is partnering with Positive Psychology practitioner and Holistic Wellness Expert Darlene Marshall to share simple practices that build mental wellbeing.

Mental wellbeing is more than just removing mental health challenges; it’s about cultivating the things that make life worth living. Yet, sometimes our wellness to-do list can feel like an overwhelming chore. The point of our wellness efforts is to build wellbeing so you’re more present, aware, and connected with what matters most in your life. Wellness overwhelm can creep in when we begin to feel we have to do every single wellness practice but aren’t actually feeling any better for it. Research shows when our wellness efforts are anchored in what’s meaningful, we’re more consistent and happier.

Savour What Matters Most

As you take a moment to savour your Twinings Tea, try this journaling exercise to connect your wellness to what matters most:

Journal Prompt 1: Choose 1 or 2 things that are the most important priorities in your life right now.  What about them is so meaningful in this season of your life?

Journal Prompt 2: Which wellness practices help you to be your best for what matters most?

Journal Prompt 3: Of all the wellness practices you know and do, which ones are most helpful and worth prioritizing? Which practices do you feel obligated to do but do not serve your wellbeing?

Building Long-Term Wellbeing

Sometimes it can feel like we have to do and try everything or we’re not getting the most out of life. Yet, the optimizer mindset can leave you feeling drained and overwhelmed.  Remember that small, satisfying steps like this can create powerful ripple effects in your mental wellbeing. Connecting with what matters most can help you stay motivated, even when you’re feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, or a bit burnt out.

Be sure to check out our other posts from this month for more simple practices that can help build mental wellbeing.
