Twinings Consumer Packaging
Sustainable design that protects your tea and the planet.
At Twinings, we’re continually improving how we package your tea, so it arrives fresh, flavourful, and responsibly wrapped. That means we strive to use fewer materials, choose more sustainable options, phase out single-use plastics, and increase recycled content wherever possible. Our goal? To continue advancing our packaging so that all Twinings consumer packaging is recyclable, reusable, or compostable where appropriate. This is a commitment reflected throughout this page and embedded in everything we do as an organization.
We’ve made strong progress already and we’re committed to going even further. Here’s how each component works.
Cartons
Protective. Recyclable. Essential.
Our cardboard cartons shield your tea from light, humidity and damage helping every cup taste exactly as intended.
Material: Cardboard
How to Recycle: Recycle as paper waste
Simple, sturdy, and designed with recyclability in mind.
Tea Envelopes
Designed for freshness.
To preserve freshness, we exclusively produce high-barrier envelopes.
HBAR High-Barrier Envelope: Individually foil wrapped to lock in freshness and protect each blend.
We continue to work towards re-engineering this packaging for a circular future.
String and Tea Bags
Plant-based. Biodegradable. Compostable.
Our string and tag tea bags are made from a natural blend of wood and abaca fibers, making them fully compostable.
• Fold-sealed (no staples)
• Cotton string
• Tag printed with biodegradable ink
• End-of-life: Compost through your local food-waste program.
Your cup of tea leaves nothing behind but good taste.
Loose Leaf Tins
Richer aroma. Bigger flavour. Thoughtful protection.
Our loose-leaf teas are blended to create a complex, balanced, and vibrant cup, and the tin is crafted to be reused long after whether as a pen holder, a stylish storage tin, or a small planter. We also offer large 500g pouches of select loose-leaf teas so you can easily refill your tins.
Material (Refill Bag): Polypropylene
How to Recycle Refill Bag: Recycle as plastic only where local programs accept polypropylene*
We’re actively exploring more sustainable, widely recyclable alternatives that continue to protect our loose-leaf blends because great flavour and responsible packaging should always go hand in hand.
*Recycling capabilities vary by state and facility. In California, this product does not meet SB 343 criteria for recyclability.
